I had it in my head to continue where I left off with ‘Within Without’. The experience of making that track had been really important to me. I challenged myself to arrange the strings in much more detail than I had before and then get it properly recorded. So with this initially I wanted to see what else I could come up with.

What you have here is pretty basic in comparison, it was intended as a demo, but the direction never quite worked for me. And it made no sense on Paroxysm, the album which ended up being released next.

Rather than leave yet another piece in the darkness of an “ideas” folder on my hard drive, I’m getting loads of these experiments out and sharing with you.

If everyone bought a track for a £1 (unrealistic, I know, not everyone is going to like all the songs but…) it would basically pay for me to make another album.

Most of my albums cost between £4-6000 to make. I keep costs down by doing a lot of things myself and using some pretty DIY methods, but I also pay a lot of musicians to work on songs, so it all filters out into the community.

Anyway, times are hard and I know it’s tough to support musicians as well as ourselves. So whatever happens, please just keep enjoying the music and staying in touch.
